Community Bird Walk and Bird Call Contest

 Take a walk on the Riverwalk Trail guided by David Hoffman, photographer and bird enthusiast and Mary Foster, president of the Southside Bird Club and lifelong birder. We will meet at 9:00 a.m. on Sat., Feb. 18 under the flagpole at the Community Market for the walk. Bring along cameras, binoculars and attentive ears. Also, at Raywood at 12:00 we will play Test Your Skills with Bird Calls with approximately 15 - 20 backyard bird calls to identify. A $50 gift certificate awarded to the best bird call identifier. It should be fun! Join us for one or both events. You can learn and practice your skills on www.allaboutbirds.org.

February is National Wildbird Feeding Month

We have quite a line up of activities for you and your family

Join us at Raywood

 Feb.11th - 1 PM  

Robb Herbst, Master Falconer, Educator, and Friends of Philpott- Director of Education will be presenting a lecture on Raptors of Virginia. 

 Both educational, and entertaining, Mr. Herbst and his children Aviane and Wofie will present, and discuss live birds of prey featuring Lenny- the barn owl! and two of his avian friends. 

Photo Contest. . . a little different this year

There will be 2 categories:

-  Birds -  Birds in the Wild or at your Feeder 

-  Wildlife Raiders - critters raiding your   feeders

-  The photos will be judged by customer votes - “The People’s Choice”

-  The participants cannot vote

-  One vote per visit per category, but come in often

-  Photos must be received by Tuesday, Feb. 14

-  Judging will begin Wed., Feb. 15 through Wed. Feb. 29

-  “The People’s Choice” Winners will be announced Thurs.,  Mar. 1

    In case of a tie we will have a drawing

-  1^st Prize - $50 gift certificate,

- 2^nd Prize - $25 gift certificate

- 3^rd Prize - suet feeder with suet
